Christopher Peterson is the managing Litigation Partner with Duncan Peterson. Founding the firm in 2017 with his partner, John Duncan, Christopher has practiced general civil litigation since 2001, with a focus on business, real estate and tort litigation matters since 2001. Christopher prides himself in not only providing successful results for his clients, but also ensuring that his clients are informed on the status of their matters to ensure clear communication throughout the litigation process. Focusing on this method, Christopher has had the privilege to represent companies ranging from Fortune 500 to smaller sized businesses and individuals. Christopher’s practice of law has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell with an AV rating. In addition to his AV rating, Christopher has also been recognized by San Diego Magazine’s “Top Lawyers in San Diego” from 2016-2019. Christopher strives for success not only in San Diego, but up and down the entire state as the firm regularly practices in venues throughout California. Christopher also oversees and manages litigation the firm handles outside of California.
Prior to founding Duncan Peterson, Christopher was a partner at Aldridge Pite (formerly Pite Duncan), a large real estate/financial services litigation firm with a national presence. Christopher independently managed a high-volume caseload and successfully managed the firm’s California litigation department. Prior to his time at Pite Duncan, LLP, Christopher was a partner at Reid & Hellyer, in Riverside, California, a general civil litigation firm. Starting his law practice at Reid & Hellyer under the mentorship of the late David G. Moore, a litigation legend, Christopher gained extensive experience as a trial attorney. Christopher, as lead chair, obtained successful jury verdicts and bench trial decisions during his tenure at Reid & Hellyer. Christopher’s very first jury trial at the age of 29 was the Verdict of the Week in VERDICTSEARCH CALIFORNIA in which he obtained successful judgment awards for both Plaintiffs in the matter.
Christopher was admitted to the California Bar in 2001, after receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, graduating cum laude. Prior to law school, Christopher received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Riverside. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys working out, boxing and following his favorite team, the San Diego Padres.
Michael Baker is an Associate Attorney with Duncan Peterson, LLP. Since joining the firm in 2017 he has practiced in all aspects of civil litigation, with a focus on business and real estate matters. He creates practical litigation strategies to obtain successful results on behalf of public and private companies and individual clients. He is also experienced in appellate litigation and has handled appeals on behalf of Fortune 500 clients.
Prior to joining Duncan Peterson, Michael was a Senior Associate at a large real estate litigation firm with a national presence. He independently managed a high-volume caseload and distinguished himself as an expert in landlord-tenant litigation. He gained extensive experience as a trial attorney, and regularly conducted successfully settlement negotiations on behalf of clients. In that position Michael prided himself on advising large business clients in a challenging and constantly-evolving area of law, and developed valuable practical skills that continue to inform his practice and benefit current clients.
Michael was admitted to the California Bar in 2010, after receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. While at USD Law he was a recipient of the Dean’s Outstanding Scholar Award, a merit-based scholarship. He was also appointed to a position on the editorial board of the San Diego International Law Journal and was a member of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. Prior to law school he received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a double-major in English and Philosophy with an emphasis on Ethics and Public Policy.
Melissa Borja started as an associate attorney at Duncan Peterson, LLP in June of 2019. She practices in all areas of general civil litigation, with an emphasis in tort and business matters.
Prior to joining Duncan Peterson, LLP, Ms. Borja focused on business transactional law. She worked for a boutique law firm in La Jolla wherein she helped form start-up businesses, as well as, drafted a variety of business contracts for startup businesses up to multi-million-dollar retail clients. She also spent a short time working for the United States Navy where she was responsible for negotiating and drafting multi-million-dollar contracts for war ship repair and maintenance.
Ms. Borja earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in downtown San Diego. Prior to attending law school, she received her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, graduating with honors as a proud Aztec!
In her free time Melissa spends most of her time with her son Bentley. They enjoy going to Padres games, playing basketball, and soaking up the southern California sunshine.
